Musician, pianist, vocalist, arranger, writer, humorist

Growing up in a vibrant musical city like Memphis, my passion for music was sparked very early on when my Uncle Joe asked my Mom if she wanted an old, giant-sized upright piano for us kids to possibly  play around with.   It was in the heart of this moment that I discovered the piano and the profound impact it would have on my life.

Growing up in church, I was immersed in a culture rich with musicality, where playing the piano became second nature to me.  Whether it was accompanying the church choir or jamming with fellow musicians, every opportunity allowed me to further develop my skills and understanding of harmony and rhythm.

Later as I delved into the world of composition, I began to unlock the ability to bring my own musical ideas to life.  Learning from experienced musicians in the Memphis area, church and later in college where I academically discovered jazz, I was exposed to diverse styles and genres.  It broadened my musical horizons and nurtured my natural creativity.

I was very fortunate to study with a number of prominent jazz pianist in Memphis; Phineas Newborne Jr., Mulgrew Miller,  James Williams and  Donald Brown.

Looking back , I can confidently say that my journey to be a great musician was laid down in Memphis and later polished in NYC where I learned to add the "theater of music" to my performances.

"The spirit of music  is the spirit of freedom, collaboration and improvisation.  It's a constant reminder for us to find harmony within the chaos"
